WPA3 uses AES as the cipher to encrypt messages (in GCM mode) and calculate message authentication code (in Galois MAC). AES standardizes the usage of the Rijndael algorithm. As a result, Rijndael is the most fundamental cryptographic primitive used by WPA3.
