Strategic Portfolios

A project may be managed in three separate scenarios: as a stand-alone project (outside of a portfolio or program), within a program, or within a portfolio. (PMBOK 6th)

Business Case

• A business case evaluates initiatives as alternatives in terms of feasibility, costs, and benefits.
• An approved business case that justifies an initiative will turn it into a project sponsored by the project sponsor and managed by a project manager.

Project Life Cycle

A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result.

A project life cycle is the series of phases that a project passes through from its start to its completion. The phases may be sequential, iterative, or overlapping. Project life cycles can be predictive or adaptive.

Development Life Cycle

Within a project life cycle, there are generally one or more phases that are associated with the development of the product, service, or result. These are called a development life cycle. Development life cycles can be predictive, iterative, incremental, adaptive, or a hybrid model.

Engineering Projects

Engineering is the process of applying knowledge and skills to understand and manage stakeholders’ requirements, propose and implement a solution to address those requirements, and utilize and support that solution to create value persistently until its retirement.

In other words, engineering is project-based; it’s also a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. The results of engineering projects are transferred to daily operations. A project is a one-time investment, while operations are sustainable activities that create and deliver value persistently.

Security engineering is a specialty discipline of engineering that focuses on addressing security concerns.

Agile is a mindset that focuses on frequently creating and delivering values with a collection of predefined principles and proven practices.
