Wentz’s Question Of The Day for CISSP or Wentz QOTD is an initiative for giving back to the community. As a CISSP instructor in Taiwan, Wentz spends around two hours each day to author the question and develop the solution.
Wentz QOTD is suitable for CISSP aspirants who:
- intend to learn by topics,
- finish the first round of study, or
- sprint for the CISSP exam.
Please use Wentz QOTD as learning materials and learn by practicing questions. Please don’t treat it as an evaluation tool, as you may feel frustrated with a focus on getting the correct answer or high score.
Wentz QOTD is thought-intensive, as every question is designed with care. Wentz’s suggested answer and justification are proposed after research. References are included for further study.
When writing questions, Wentz applies various domains of knowledge and his experience of engineering (system, software, and security), project management, business administration, and heavyweight exams taking (CISSP, CBAP, PMP, SCRUM, MCSD, etc.). Terminologies, business ideas, technical concepts, and security processes are often integrated into one question.
Three Question Levels
- Level I: Review questions test how well you have learned from a book.
- Level II: Integration questions test how well you know about a certain subject matter.
- Level III: Synthesis questions evaluate if you can apply what you have learned to solve a problem.
The Test-Driven Study emphasizes testing is part of the learning process. You can learn by answering questions and reading books iteratively.
Reasoning and Justification
Wentz QOTD advocates reasoning and justification. Most of the questions synthesize two or more facts and entail an analysis of the implications. To use Wentz QOTD effectively, CISSP aspirants need to:
- think, research, and study intensively,
- use judgment and critical thinking, and
- develop justification and identify the best answer.
Wentz is one of the people, who always tries to present a challenge to his students. What I admire most about this, is that it’s never about a good or a bad answer. It’s about the thought process that resulted in this answer.
He combined lots of knowledge into his first book, “The Effective CISSP – Security and Risk Management”. For me it was an eye-opener, that pushed me to look at things in a different, more critical and more analytical way. This basically triggered a different way of studying things, causing an even better understanding on how things come together.
I’ve worked with him on a few occasions, and I must say, it’s always an honor to do so.
Kindly be reminded that the suggested answer is for your reference only. It doesn’t matter whether you have the right or wrong answer. What really matters is your reasoning process and justifications.
When you are answering the question in the Effective CISSP Facebook group, the author appreciates your rating of the question in terms of difficulty.
For example, B4 means your answer is B, with a rating of 4.
(1: very easy, 2: easy, 3: moderate, 4: difficult, 5: very difficult).
