Effective CISSP Questions

Your company is constructing a new building with a structured cable system topology per the standard EIA/TIA 568. As a network engineer, you are designing an 802.3 network with hundreds of nodes. Which of the following is the least concern of your design?
A. Attenuation
B. ARP Attack (Address Resolution Protocol)
C. CAM Table Overflows (Content Addressable Memory)
D. Teardrop Attack

Kindly be reminded that the suggested answer is for your reference only. It doesn’t matter whether you have the right or wrong answer. What really matters is your reasoning process and justifications.

My suggested answer is D. Teardrop Attack.

EIA/TIA 568 is a cabling standard. An 802.3 network is also known as an Ethernet. They are related to the physical and data link layer in terms of the ISO OSI reference model.

  • Signal attenuation is a concern in the physical layer.
  • ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) translates an IP address into the MAC address. It is a concern in the data link layer.
  • CAM Table (Content Addressable Memory) is used by a switching hub, which is a device operating in the data link layer.
  • Teardrop Attack is a denial-of-service (DoS) attack by sending fragmented IP packets. It is an attack in the network layer.
