Every IP device (no matter it’s a router, server, laptop, or mobile phone) has a routing table for applications to communicate with one another. Even a device has no network interface card (NIC), a software-based virtual NIC can be installed for applications to communicate on the localhost.
The following are OS commands to show the routing table:

- netstat -r (Linux)
