Effective CISSP Questions

Which of the following enforces the security property of authentication?
A. HMAC
B. AES
C. SHA
D. XACML

Kindly be reminded that the suggested answer is for your reference only. It doesn’t matter whether you have the right or wrong answer. What really matters is your reasoning process and justifications.

My suggested answer is A.HMAC.

  • HMAC (hash-based message authentication code) involves a cryptographic hash function and a secret cryptographic key to compute hash values. HMAC ensures both data integrity and authenticity of the source through authenticating the secret key.
  • AES is a symmetric cipher that protects confidentiality.
  • SHA ensures data integrity only.
  • XACML is used for authorization, while SAML is primarily for authentication.
